SMIT-UST Pontifical Affiliation Inauguration

Today August 27, 2025 was a momentous occasion for the Saint Monica Institute of Theology (SMIT)! We officially celebrated our affiliation with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) with a Solemn Mass presided over by His Eminence, Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, DD, Archbishop of Cebu.

The event was graced by many including the OAD Provincial Prior, Very Rev. Fr. Luigi Kerschbamer, OAD, representatives from the UST Faculty of Theology, and about 35 priests, along with members of various religious congregations and lay people.

The day's program was split into three parts: a solemn inaugural Holy Mass, followed by the blessing of our school building. The celebration culminated in an inauguration ceremony at St. Rita Hall, where UST presented the official Decree of Affiliation to SMIT. The event also included cultural presentations and a special recognition ceremony, where plaques of appreciation were given to dedicated SMIT faculty and staff who have served for over a decade.

This new affiliation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing quality theological education. We are excited about the future and the new opportunities this partnership will bring! Some pictures of the event are below.
